What are generators used for?

So what do you do?

It’s a question that always makes me smile before I answer it. I know the reaction will be one of a lack of interest or that of sympathy for what sounds like the most underwhelming of industries. What are generators used for?
My answer “I sell generators” wait for the usual bemused face and get ready for the stock reply to my answer “Really, and who do you sell to?”
Here lies what I enjoy most about the industry, I can never predict the particular requirement that the next e-mail or telephone call will demand. Sure a generator used for emergency back-up power or continuous power is fairly obvious but the industries can be so varied. The enjoyment I get in understanding and providing a solution to a myriad of unique customers, all of which are dependable on consistent reliable power.
Over the last four weeks we have delivered generators for the following applications, showing how diverse the diesel generator industry can be.

AGGREGATE STONE CRUSHING

200KVA CUMMINS SOUND PROOFED GENERATOR
Sold to a quarry plant manufacturer in Essex. Customer provides international crushing solutions and this generator will be used to power one of their new off grid stone crushing machines destined for Africa.

SPECIAL FX – SPECIAL EFFECTS SPECIALIST

22KVA PERKINS SOUND PROOFED GENERATOR
Delivered to a film Industry special effects company. Clients brief was to provide power to various machines in the manufacture of snow and wind for various filming projects.

CARE HOME – EMERGENCY BACK-UP POWER – CORNISH COAST

100KVA CUMMINS SOUND PROOFED GENERATOR WITH ATS
Sited at one of the most beautiful locations in the country this generator is designed to provide emergency power to a nursing home. Generator is being installed with an automatic transfer switch to provide power without intervention from a member of staff.

PLASTERBOARD WASTE MANAGEMENT AND RECYCLING

165KVA PERKINS SOUND PROOFED GNENERATOR
This generator is designed to provide power to a off grid sorting and crushing plant. This plant recycles plasterboard into recycled gypsum for use in the agricultural industry. Special attention was given to make sure there was enough power available for the various motors involved in the recycling process.
